🤝 The Enemies Made a Plan Together

🏙️🤝😤⚔️😔

In the fifth year after the Hijra, a very large coalition of enemies gathered against the Muslims of Madinah. The Quraysh, allied tribes, and others came together with an army of about 10,000 soldiers. It was the biggest threat the Muslims had ever faced.

The Prophet (SAW) consulted his companions about how to defend Madinah. Salman al-Farisi, a companion originally from Persia, suggested something the Arabs had never seen before: dig a trench around the exposed side of Madinah so the enemy cavalry could not cross.

The Prophet (SAW) accepted this idea and the Muslims immediately began to dig.

Seerah — Ibn HishamSahih Bukhari — Book of Maghazi
✨ What We Learn

The Prophet (SAW) took advice from a companion whose background was completely different from the Arabs. In Islam, a good idea is a good idea no matter who it comes from. Wisdom has no borders.

Chapter 2

⛏️ Everyone Dug Together

⛏️💪🤲🌟😤

The trench was dug in extremely cold weather. It was hard, exhausting work. But the Prophet (SAW) did not just give orders and stand aside. He dug alongside his companions, carrying soil and breaking through rock with his own hands.

The companions would sing working songs to keep their spirits up, and the Prophet (SAW) would sing along with them. When they struck a rock that no one could break, the Prophet (SAW) would take the pick himself.

There was barely enough food. The companions were hungry during the work. Jabir ibn Abdillah narrated that the Prophet (SAW) went three days without food while digging, with only a stone tied against his stomach from the hunger. Yet he kept working and kept encouraging his companions.

Sahih Bukhari — Hadith 3040Seerah — Ibn Hisham
✨ What We Learn

The Prophet (SAW) never asked his companions to do something he was not willing to do himself. He dug, he suffered the cold and the hunger alongside them. A true leader works with his people, not above them.

Chapter 3

🌟 A Miracle in the Trench

🌟✨🍞😮🤲

During the digging, Jabir ibn Abdillah saw how exhausted and hungry the Prophet (SAW) was. He quietly went home and prepared a small amount of food and told the Prophet (SAW) in private.

The Prophet (SAW) called out to all the companions to come and eat. Jabir was frightened: he only had a little food for a few people! But the Prophet (SAW) prayed over the food and then people kept eating.

Sahih Bukhari records that about 1,000 companions ate from that small amount of food and still there was food left over. This was one of the clear miracles of the Prophet (SAW).

Sahih Bukhari — Hadith 4101Sahih Muslim — Book of Virtues
✨ What We Learn

When we share what little we have for the sake of Allah, He puts blessing into it. The companions had almost nothing, but because they shared, everyone was fed. Generosity multiplies, it never diminishes.

Chapter 4

⚔️ The Enemy Arrives: 10,000 Soldiers

⚔️😱🛡️🌬️🙏

The army of 10,000 arrived at Madinah and found the trench. They had never seen anything like it in Arabia. Their cavalry could not cross. Day after day they tried to find a way through or around it.

The siege lasted about 20 to 27 days. It was bitterly cold. The Muslims were exhausted, hungry, and outnumbered. They prayed, they stood guard, and they held the line.

Allah describes this moment in the Quran:

When they came upon you from above and from below you, and when eyes grew wild and hearts reached the throats, and you were having thoughts about Allah. It was there that the believers were tested and were shaken with a mighty shaking. (Al-Ahzab 33:10-11)

Only one warrior managed to cross the trench with his horse. He was Amr ibn Abd Wudd, one of the most feared warriors in Arabia. Ali ibn Abi Talib went out to meet him and defeated him.

Quran — Surah Al-Ahzab (33:10-11)Seerah — Ibn Hisham
✨ What We Learn

Fear is natural. Even the companions feared during the Trench. The Quran does not say they felt nothing; it says they held firm anyway. Real courage is not the absence of fear; it is trusting Allah despite the fear.

Chapter 5

🌬️ Allah Sent the Wind

🌬️🌪️😮🏃🤲

After the long siege, the Muslims were at their limits. The Prophet (SAW) made dua, calling to Allah for help. Then Allah sent His help in an unexpected way.

O you who have believed, remember the favour of Allah upon you when armies came to attack you and We sent against them a wind and armies you could not see. (Al-Ahzab 33:9)

Allah sent a fierce wind that tore through the enemy camp. Their tents were uprooted, their fires were put out, their horses panicked. The coalition fell into disarray and distrust among themselves.

Abu Sufyan gave the order to withdraw. The army of 10,000 broke apart and left without achieving anything. The Muslims had held Madinah without a major battle.

Quran — Surah Al-Ahzab (33:9)Seerah — Ibn HishamSahih Bukhari — Book of Maghazi
✨ What We Learn

Allah can send help from directions no one could imagine. The Muslims did not defeat 10,000 with weapons; Allah sent the wind. When we have done our part and made dua, we trust Allah to do the rest.

🌙⭐💛

Reflections from The Battle of the Trench

The Battle of the Trench showed that believers defend themselves with wisdom, patience, and dua. The Muslims dug a trench, held firm through weeks of siege in bitter cold with little food, and then watched as Allah sent the wind to scatter 10,000 enemies. No army can defeat the people whom Allah protects.

🌟 Lessons from This Battle

🧠Wisdom is a weapon. Salman al-Farisi suggested the trench and it changed everything. Islam values good thinking. Use your mind as part of your worship of Allah.
💪Leaders work alongside their people. The Prophet (SAW) dug with his own hands, hungry in the cold. True leadership is never about privilege; it is about service.
🌬️Help can come from anywhere. Allah sent wind, not soldiers. He can help us in ways we never expected. Make dua and trust that Allah has options we cannot see.
🤲Keep going through the hard times. The siege lasted nearly a month. The companions were exhausted and afraid. They kept going. Patience is one of the greatest gifts we can ask Allah for.
🍞Share what you have. Jabir shared his tiny amount of food and Allah made it enough for 1,000. When we give generously, Allah puts blessing into what remains.
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي
O Allah, You are Forgiving and love forgiveness, so forgive me.
🤚 May Allah make us among those He is pleased with. Ameen 🤚
